Upload videos and add from Shopify Files

Upload clips from your computer, or add videos and images you already have in Shopify Files.

Where to find it: Video library → Add media.

The Add media page has four tabs under Import from: Upload, Shopify Files (opens by default), Instagram, and TikTok. This page covers the first two. For social media, see Import from Instagram and TikTok.

How it works

Every clip in your library is a file in Shopify Files. For uploads and files already in Shopify Files, adding a clip is a two-step move:

  1. The file gets into Shopify Files, either by uploading it here or because it's already there.
  2. You add it to the library from the Shopify Files tab.

Upload from your computer

On the Add media page, click Upload under Import from.

Drag files onto Upload videos or images, or click it to choose them. The upload starts straight away, with no separate button.

Wait while the files upload. A line under the box shows where you are, for example Uploading 2 of 5 to Shopify Files…. Keep the page open until it finishes.

When the upload is done, the page switches to the Shopify Files tab with the message Uploaded to Shopify Files.

Carry on with Add from Shopify Files below. Your new files aren't selected for you. Videos can show Processing for a moment, so select them once that badge is gone.

Files go from your browser straight to Shopify. Videos and images upload the same way.

LimitValue
File typesMP4, MOV, JPG, PNG, WebP
Video sizeUp to 250 MB each
Image sizeUp to 20 MB each
Files per uploadUp to 8. Any extra files are ignored.

Problem files are skipped, the rest still upload

Foxr checks every file before it uploads. A file that's too large or the wrong type is left out, and the page lists it under A file could not be uploaded (or Some files could not be uploaded). The other files still upload. If a file fails part-way, for example because your connection dropped, it's reported the same way and the rest carry on. Fix the problem file and upload it again.

Add from Shopify Files

Click Shopify Files. Your videos and images are listed, newest first, 50 per page. Use the arrows at the bottom to move between pages. Other file types, such as PDFs, aren't shown.

To find a file, type part of its filename in Search by filename and click Search.

Click the files you want. Each one shows Selected, and the count above the list goes up, for example 3 of 25 selected.

Click Add to library at the top of the page. The button shows how many you've picked, for example Add 3 to library.

Your selection is kept while you search and change pages, so you can pick files from several searches at once. Clear selection starts over.

If nothing is listed, the page says No files found. Upload a file first, or check your search.

What the badges mean

BadgeMeaningCan you select it?
Video / ImageThe file type.Yes
ProcessingShopify is still preparing the file, or processing failed. The badge doesn't clear by itself, so click Search to check again. If it never clears, check the file under Content → Files in Shopify. No
Already addedThe file is already in your library. No
SelectedYou've picked it.Click again to unselect

You can add up to 25 files at a time. At the limit, the page says You can add 25 files at a time. Add these, then come back for the rest.

After you add them

  • One file: its video page opens, ready for you to tag a product.
  • Several files: you're back in the library with a Media added banner. It also tells you about any files that were already in your library, or were still processing and need adding again in a moment. If nothing was added, the banner says Nothing was added and explains why.

Each new clip:

FieldStarts as
NameA video uses its filename without the extension. An image uses its alt text if it has one, otherwise its filename.
StatusActive
SourceShopify Files
Call to actionNone. Tag a product next.

You can change the name on the video page. See Edit a video.

Sidekick can set this page up for you

Ask Sidekick to look for a file in Shopify Files. It opens this page on the Shopify Files tab with your search filled in. You still select the files and click Add to library. See Use Foxr with Sidekick.
