Tag a product

Make a clip shoppable: tag the product it shows so shoppers can add it to their cart from the video.

Tagging is what turns a video into a shoppable video. Tag the product a clip shows, and shoppers get a product card on the clip with a quick way to add it to their cart.

Where to find it: open a clip in Video library, then go to the Call to action section on the right.

Tag a product

In Video library, click the clip.

Under Call to action, set the dropdown to Product.

Click Add product. Shopify's product picker opens.

Pick the product shown in the clip, then confirm. It appears with its image and title.

Click Save in the save bar.

The product shows up on your storefront within a minute or two, in every widget that uses the clip. You don't need to save the widgets again. The one exception is a Product page widget with Show every clip when none match off: save it after you tag the first clip for a product. See The Product page layout.

Change or remove the product

To change the product:

Open the clip and find its product under Call to action.

Click the ✕ next to the product.

Click Add product, then pick the new product and confirm.

Click Save in the save bar.

To remove the product, click the ✕ next to it, then click Save.

What shoppers see

WhereWhat appears
The player (every layout)A product card over the bottom of the video with the product's image, title, and price, and a + button. What tapping it does depends on your Products settings.
Carousel and Grid cardsA small product chip on the card, when the widget's Product card option isn't set to Hidden. See On the thumbnails.
Product page layoutClips tagged with a product are the ones shown on that product's page. See The Product page layout.

Sales from tagged products are credited to the clip and widget in Analytics.

Rules to know

  • One product per clip. If a clip shows several products, tag the main one.
  • The product must be Active in Shopify. A product that isn't active, such as a draft or an archived one, shows a badge with its status next to it on the video page, and isn't shown to shoppers. It appears once the product is active again.
  • Sold-out products still show unless you turn on Hide out of stock products and variants in Settings → Products.

The Call to action dropdown also has None, Collection, and Custom link.

TypeWhat you set
NoneNothing. The clip shows without a shopping link.
CollectionClick Add collection and pick one collection.
Custom linkLink URL, a full address starting with http:// or https://, and a Button label of up to 60 characters, for example Shop the look.

Collection and Custom link are saved with the clip, but they aren't shown to shoppers.

A clip keeps one call to action

Switching a clip to None, Collection, or Custom link and saving removes its tagged product, along with its product card on your storefront. To keep a clip shoppable, leave it on Product.

Find clips that aren't tagged

In Video library, set the product filter to No product.

Open a clip from the list and tag it.

Click Save, then go back to the library and set the filter again. The arrows on a video page don't follow the filter.

You can also ask Sidekick to list clips with no product tagged. It can open a clip for you, but you pick the product yourself with Add product.
