AEO & GEO

Structured data that helps Google show your clips as video results, and lets answer engines quote what's said in them.

Where to find it: Settings → AEO & GEO.

AEO and GEO stand for answer engine optimisation and generative engine optimisation: getting your content found and quoted by AI assistants and search engines. Foxr does this by adding structured data, a description of each video that search engines can read, to the pages where your widgets appear. Shoppers never see it.

SettingWhat it doesDefault
Add video structured dataAdds a VideoObject description for each video in your widgets, so Google can list them as video results. On

Turn it on or off

Click Settings in the app menu, then click AEO & GEO.

Turn Add video structured data on or off.

Turn Include the transcript in structured data on or off. It only matters while the first switch is on.

Click Save. You'll see Settings saved. Foxr then updates all your widgets, which can take a moment.

What goes into it

For each video in a widget:

FieldComes from
TitleThe clip's Name in the Video library. If that's empty, the file's alt text, then its file name. Up to 110 characters.
DescriptionThe clip's Caption, or the file's alt text if there's no caption. Up to 500 characters.
Video and thumbnailThe video file and its poster image
Upload dateWhen the file was added to Shopify
DurationThe video's length
TranscriptThe clip's subtitles, when the transcript setting is on
AboutThe tagged product's name

These are left out:

  • Images. Only videos are described.
  • Draft clips. A clip set to Draft doesn't play on your storefront, so it isn't described either.
  • Videos with no poster image or upload date. Search engines need both.

Each widget describes every video in it, on every page where the widget is placed. That includes both versions in an A/B test, and clips a Product page widget doesn't show for that product. It also includes widgets that hide themselves, for example for having too few clips. Search engines check that a video really is on the page before showing it as a result.

When it updates

The structured data is written into each widget, and Foxr keeps it up to date for you:

  • After changing either setting: click Save here. All your widgets are updated.
  • After you save a clip with a new name, caption, subtitles, product, or status: the widgets that use the clip are updated automatically.
  • After you rename a product in Shopify: open the widget and click Save, or save the clip again. The product name is refreshed then.

Very large widgets

If a widget with lots of long transcripts gets too big to save, transcripts are left out of that widget first, then its structured data. The widget still saves and works as normal.
