Fullscreen player
Sound, quick add, sharing, likes, captions, cropping, and auto-advance in the player shoppers watch your videos in.
Where to find it: Settings → Fullscreen player.
These apply to the player in every widget: the fullscreen viewer, and the mini player where noted.
Change a player setting
Click Settings in the app menu, then click Fullscreen player.
Turn a switch on or off. The table below says what each one does.
Click Save. You'll see Settings saved.
To check it, open your store and tap a video. The player opens with your settings.
| Setting | What it does | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Open muted | Videos open with the sound off. Shoppers tap the speaker to unmute. | Off |
| Automatically show product quick add in fullscreen | On desktop, the quick add panel for the tagged product opens by itself when the player opens. | Off |
| Show share button | A share button in the player. It opens the device's share sheet, or copies the page link where there isn't one. | On |
| Show like button | A heart shoppers can tap to like a video. | On |
| Show social handle | Meant to show the creator's username on imported clips. See the note below. | Off |
| Show media captions | Shows each file's alt text over the player, above the product card. | Off |
| Crop to fit vertical aspect ratio | Fills the tall 9:16 player frame, cropping as needed. When off, clips that aren't 9:16, such as landscape videos, show whole, with bars around them (black, or light grey on the Light theme). | On |
| Autoplay | When a video ends, move on to the next one. The last video loops. When off, every video loops until the shopper moves on. Images never move on by themselves. | On |
Details worth knowing
Automatically show product quick add
It only opens on screens at least 750 px wide, for the clip the player opened on, and only when that clip has a tagged product. It doesn't open when Buy button action is Link to the product page, or in the mini player.
Each automatic opening counts as a product click in Analytics, so turning this on raises your click numbers.
Share
Share links to the page the widget is on, not to the video itself. Opening the link doesn't open the player. The share button is hidden in the mini player.
The share button shows if either this setting or a widget's own Show a share button is on, and this one is on by default. To remove the share button, turn this off, and keep the widget switches off.
Likes
Likes are just for the shopper: they're saved in their own browser so the heart stays filled on their next visit. They aren't counted or reported anywhere, and there are no like counts.
Captions
The caption is the file's alt text from Shopify Files. See Where the captions shoppers see come from. Captions are hidden in the mini player. To show captions on thumbnails too, use the widget's Player → Show captions.
Subtitles are separate: they show automatically for videos with a subtitle track. See Subtitles.
Show social handle
The setting says it shows the username of the person who posted a clip imported from Instagram or TikTok, as a badge that links to their profile. At the moment it doesn't show anything, whichever way the switch is set. Imported clips don't keep the creator's username, so there's nothing to display. Leave it off for now.
Mini player
In the mini player, the progress bar, mute button, share button, captions, logo, and review stars are hidden. Shoppers tap the mini player to expand it.
