Analytics

Views, plays, product clicks, add-to-carts, orders, and revenue from your videos: how to read them, what every number means, and how it's counted.

Where to find it: click Analytics in the app menu.

Analytics shows how your videos perform across your whole store. You can also open it for one widget at a time.

How to read your results

Click Analytics in the app menu.

Open the Date range dropdown at the top right and pick a range. Start with Last 30 days. If your store is quiet, pick Last 90 days so there's enough traffic to read.

Look at Attributed revenue and Orders first. That's what your videos earned. The small green or red badge on each card shows how it changed since the period before.

Read Views, Plays, Product clicks, Added to cart, and Orders as a funnel, in that order. Then check the four rates between them: Play rate, Click-through rate, Add-to-cart rate, and Conversion rate. The first rate that's much lower than you expected is where shoppers drop off. The table below says what to try.

Look at the Total revenue and Views charts for spikes and dips. Hover over a chart to see a single day. The dashed line is the period before.

To find out which widget or clip is behind a number, open the widget's own analytics. See Analytics for one widget.

If this rate is lowIt usually meansThings to try
Play rateShoppers see the widget but don't open a clip.Move the widget's block higher on the page. Put your most eye-catching clip first. Low rates are normal for widgets near the bottom of a page.
Click-through rateShoppers watch but don't open a product.Make sure each clip has a product tagged. See Tag a product.
Add-to-cart rateShoppers open a product but don't add it.Check the product's price, photos, and stock. If Buy button action is Link to the product page, adds happen on the product page and aren't counted here. See Products settings.
Conversion rateFew views end in an order.Give it time and more traffic. Remember that only sales credited through a video count, and that shoppers who decline tracking aren't counted.

To compare two versions of a widget, see A/B testing.

Date range

The dropdown at the top sets the range for every number on the page. Under the page title, a line tells you what's being compared, such as Last 30 days compared with the 30 days before it.

OptionCompared with
Last 7 daysThe 7 days before
Last 30 days (default)The 30 days before
Last 90 daysThe 90 days before
All timeNo comparison. The line says Every day on record.

"Last 7 days" means today plus the 6 days before it.

The metric cards

There are 12 cards. Hover over a card's name to see its definition.

CardWhat it counts
Attributed revenueSales traced back to a clip. See How sales are credited.
OrdersOrders with at least one product a clip sent the shopper to.
Average order valueAttributed revenue ÷ orders. It counts only the credited products, not the whole order.
Conversion rateOrders ÷ views. The share of widget views that ended in a purchase.
Revenue per 1,000 viewsAttributed revenue ÷ views × 1,000. What a thousand views of your videos are worth.
ViewsTimes a widget was shown on a storefront page.
PlaysTimes a clip came up in the player.
Play ratePlays ÷ views.
Product clicksTaps on a product tagged in a video.
Click-through rateProduct clicks ÷ plays.
Added to cartAdds to cart from a video's player: one per add, whatever the quantity.
Add-to-cart rateAdded to cart ÷ product clicks.

With a 7, 30, or 90-day range, each card shows a badge comparing it with the period before, green with an up arrow for up and red with a down arrow for down. The badge shows the relative change: a conversion rate going from 1.00% to 1.20% shows +20%. There's no badge when the earlier period had nothing to compare with, or on All time.

Rates are shown with two decimals, such as 1.20%, because video conversion rates are often well under 1%.

The charts

Two charts sit under the cards:

  • Total revenue: the attributed revenue for each day in the range.
  • Views: how many times your widgets were shown each day.

Hover over a chart, or click it and use the left and right arrow keys, to see a day's value. With a 7, 30, or 90-day range, the period before is drawn as a dashed line labelled Previous period. All time ranges longer than 90 days are grouped into multi-day points, so the line stays readable.

A chart with nothing to plot says No attributed revenue in this range or No views in this range.

Analytics for one widget

Every widget has its own analytics page.

Click Widgets in the app menu.

On the widget's row, click the chart button (View analytics).

Pick a Date range. The page shows the widget's name at the top, its layout as a badge, and an Edit widget button.

Scroll to Clips to see which clips earn the most.

Click Analytics at the top to go back to the whole-store view.

The widget page has:

  • The same cards and charts, counting only this widget.
  • A/B test, while the widget's A/B test is switched on. See Read the results.
  • Clips: a card for each clip with its thumbnail and name, then Revenue, Views, Plays, Product clicks, Added to cart, and Orders, highest revenue first. Clips no longer in the widget show as Removed clip. Only clips viewed in the date range are listed, so the clips' revenue can add up to less than the widget's. A widget with none shows No clip in this widget has been seen in this range.

The whole-store page has no list of widgets. To compare widgets, open each one, or ask Sidekick.

How things are counted

NumberCounted when
ViewsA page loads with the widget on it, and the widget shows. Once per widget per page load, even if the shopper never scrolls down to it. A Pop up is counted when the page loads, whether or not the bubble appears. Views are also counted while the app embed is off, even though shoppers can't see the widget. A widget that hides itself isn't counted: for example because its placement doesn't match the page, or because it has fewer clips than its minimum.
PlaysA clip becomes the one showing in the player: when it opens, each time the shopper moves to another clip, and when they try to go past the first or last one, which counts the same clip again. Images count too, and going back to a clip counts again. Videos played inside a card aren't counted.
Product clicksA shopper taps a product chip, the product card, or its + button. Once per clip per page load. With Automatically show product quick add in fullscreen on, the automatic opening counts too.
Added to cartA product is added from the player. Every add counts. Adds made later on the product page aren't counted here, but their sale can still be credited. The card's hover text mentions the product page too, but those adds aren't counted.
Orders and revenueA shopper checks out with a product they reached through a video. See below.

Clip views count every clip in a widget each time it's viewed, so clip views add up to more than the widget's views. A single order can credit two widgets, so widget orders can add up to more than your store's total Orders.

How sales are credited

Foxr credits a sale in four steps:

A shopper acts on a video. They add a product to their cart from the player, or go from the video to the product page.

Foxr leaves a note on their cart. It's a hidden cart attribute that records the widget, clip, A/B version, product, quantity, and time. Foxr keeps the 8 most recent actions on a cart.

The shopper checks out. When the order confirmation page loads, the FOXR attribution pixel reads the note and the order's items, and reports them to Foxr.

Foxr credits the clip. The purchased units of the products they reached through a video are credited to that clip, its widget, and its A/B version.

The rules:

  • Only those products count. Other items in the same order aren't credited. The amount is the price paid for those items after discounts on them, without shipping. Order-wide discounts aren't subtracted, and if your prices include tax, so does this amount.
  • 30 days. A video gets credit if the shopper buys within 30 days, from the same cart.
  • Credit is shared by unit, most recent first. Each add from a video is credited with the units it added. If the order has fewer units than were added from videos, the most recent adds get the credit. Adds made in a video are matched before product-page visits, which only get units nothing else claimed.
  • One unit per product-page visit. A shopper sent to the product page who buys three units credits one to the video. Units added from the video itself are all credited.
  • Changes in the cart count. If the shopper switches to a different variant in the cart, that item isn't credited. If they raise the quantity there, only the units added from the video are credited.
  • Each order counts once. Reloading the confirmation page doesn't count the order again.

Purchases are reported only by the FOXR attribution pixel, which Foxr adds to your store the first time you open the app. You don't need to set it up. Foxr doesn't read your store's order list, so an order that the pixel doesn't report isn't credited. The pixel reports from the shopper's browser when the order confirmation page loads, so a purchase whose confirmation page never loads, for example because the shopper leaves during an offsite payment, isn't credited. If the first report fails, the pixel tries once more.

Shoppers who decline tracking

The pixel is an analytics pixel. In regions where shoppers are asked about cookies, Shopify only runs it for shoppers who accept analytics tracking. Purchases from shoppers who decline aren't credited, but their views and clicks still count. In those regions, conversion rate reads lower than it really is.

Good to know

  • Days are UTC. A day runs midnight to midnight UTC, not in your store's timezone. An order is dated when its purchase is reported, straight after checkout.
  • Numbers update live, but the page doesn't refresh by itself. Reload it, or change the range, to see the latest.
  • The Widgets page shows all-time totals, so its numbers usually differ from this page's default of 30 days.
  • Refunds and cancellations aren't subtracted, and test orders are counted.
  • Mixed currencies: if orders in the range were in more than one currency, amounts are added together without conversion and shown without a currency symbol. Money also shows without a symbol when the range has no orders.
  • Deleting a widget deletes its history. Its views, orders, and revenue disappear from every total, including past dates.
  • Uninstalling the app deletes your analytics. See Data and privacy.
  • Your own visits count, and so can previews in the theme editor. There's no filter for staff or bots.
  • There's no export, and these numbers don't appear in Shopify's own Analytics.
  • No widgets yet? The page shows No widgets yet until you create one. See Create your first widget. Numbers appear once a widget is live and a shopper has seen it.

Seeing zeros?

If a range shows Nothing recorded in this range, none of your widgets were viewed in that time. See Analytics show zero or no revenue.
