Translations and button text
Show the player's text in your shoppers' language, and change the wording of the Add to cart button, Sold out label, and View full details link.
Where to find it: Settings → Translation.
The text shoppers see in the player, such as Add to cart, Sold out, Quantity, and View full details, is translated for you. It shows in the language the shopper is browsing your store in.
You can also change the wording of three of those texts, separately for each language your store sells in. For example, you can swap Add to cart for Buy now.
Languages Foxr translates for you
Foxr has built-in translations for these languages:
- Chinese (Simplified) and Chinese (Traditional)
- Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, and Italian
- Japanese, Korean, Norwegian (Bokmål), and Polish
- Portuguese (Brazil) and Portuguese (Portugal)
- Spanish, Swedish, and Turkish
For any other language, shoppers see the English text. You can still type your own words for that language, as shown below.
Your own words aren't translated
Text you write yourself shows exactly as you typed it, in every language. That includes the widget Heading, the file's alt text used for captions, and your clip subtitles. Product names, prices, and options come from Shopify.
The three texts you can change
| Setting | Where shoppers see it | Built-in English |
|---|---|---|
| Add to cart button | The button in the quick add panel. | Add to cart |
| Sold out label | In place of the + button on a sold-out product card, on a sold-out product chip, and on the quick add button when the chosen variant is sold out. | Sold out |
| View full details link | The link under the quick add button that opens the product page. | View full details |
All other text, such as Quantity, Close, Share, and Added to cart, uses the built-in translation and can't be reworded.
Change the button text for a language
In your Shopify admin, open the app and click Settings.
Click Translation.
The first time, you'll see Allow FOXR to read your store's languages. Click Allow access, then approve in the Shopify window that opens. See the note below for what this permission does.
Find the card for the language you want. Your main language is marked (default).
Type your wording in Add to cart button, Sold out label, or View full details link. In an empty box, the grey text is the built-in wording shoppers see now. Each one can be up to 40 characters.
Repeat for any other language you sell in.
Click Save. You'll see Settings saved.
The change reaches your storefront the next time a page loads. You don't need to save your widgets again.
To go back to the built-in text, clear the box and click Save.
Add a language to your store
The Translation page lists the languages your store has published. To add one:
In your Shopify admin, go to Settings → Languages.
Click Add language, choose the language, and publish it.
Back in the app, go to Settings → Translation and reload the page. The new language has its own card.
Check it on your store
Open your store in the language you changed, for example with its language switcher.
Open a page with a Foxr widget and tap a video.
Tap the product card. The quick add panel shows your Add to cart wording and the View full details link.
How Foxr picks the language
Foxr uses the language Shopify serves the shopper, which depends on the market they're in and the language they chose.
- If you typed text for that exact language, such as
fr-CA, it's used. - Otherwise Foxr uses the text for the main language, such as
fr. - Otherwise it uses the built-in translation, or English when there isn't one.
You can leave a box blank in any language. Only the boxes you fill in are replaced.
What the permission is for
Foxr asks for Read locales only when you open Translation, so only people who use it are asked. Foxr uses it to list which languages your store has published, and nothing else. If you decline, the rest of Settings keeps working, and you can allow it later from the same page.
Widgets placed with embed code
Built-in translations come from the FOXR - Shoppable Video app embed. A widget placed with embed code shows English text, because the snippet doesn't include the translations. The wording you set here still applies to the three texts above. Turn on the app embed for full translations: Turn on the app embed.
