Change a clip's details

In Video library, click the clip.

Change what you need: Name or Caption under Details, Status, or the call to action.

Click outside the field you were typing in. The save bar appears at the top of the admin.

Click Save. Or click Discard to throw your changes away.

Saving

Changes aren't saved automatically. When something changes, a save bar appears at the top of the admin with Save and Discard.

  • A text field counts as changed once you click out of it, so the save bar appears then, not while you type.
  • After saving, the save bar disappears. There's no "Saved" message.
  • If you try to leave the page with unsaved changes, you're asked to confirm first.
  • A clip needs a name. If Name is empty, Save shows Name is required and nothing is saved.
  • When you save, Foxr also refreshes every widget that uses the clip. The new status, product, name, caption, and subtitles reach your storefront without you saving the widgets. Allow a minute or two.

Details

Name

Required, up to 255 characters. It's how you find the clip in the library search and in the widget editor. It's also used as the video's title in search engine data, when that's turned on.

Shoppers don't see the name.

Caption

Up to 2,000 characters. Imports from Instagram and TikTok fill it with the post's caption.

The caption is used as the video's description in search engine data, when that's turned on.

Where the captions shoppers see come from

The caption text shown on your widgets comes from the file's alt text in Shopify Files, not from this field, even though the hint under the box says it's shown under the clip. It appears under Carousel and Grid cards and over Product page clips when the widget's Show captions is on (Player tab). In the player, it appears when that or Show media captions in Settings is on.

To change it:

  1. In your Shopify admin, go to Content → Files, open the file, and edit its alt text.
  2. In the app, open each widget that uses the clip and click Save. Widgets pick up the new alt text when they're saved. Saving a change on the clip's own page refreshes its widgets too.

Subtitles

Paste a WebVTT or SRT track, or click Upload subtitle file and choose a .vtt or .srt file. Remove subtitles clears the track. See Subtitles for the steps, the format, and the limits.

Status

Active or Draft. Active clips play in your widgets. Draft clips stay in your library but are hidden from widgets, as the hint under the dropdown says.

Open the clip.

Under Status, choose Active or Draft.

Click Save in the save bar.

Foxr updates the widgets that use the clip for you. See Status: Active and Draft for what happens to widgets, and how to change many clips at once.

Call to action

Tag the product the clip shows. See Tag a product.

Moving between clips

The arrows at the top right move through your library in Last updated order, newest first. Your search and filters on the library page aren't applied here.

Saving a clip makes it the most recently updated, so it moves to the front of that order.

Edit with Sidekick

Ask Sidekick to open a clip and it can fill in the Name, Caption, Status, call to action, and Subtitles (WebVTT) for you. Nothing is saved until you click Save. Sidekick can't pick a product for you: use Add product.

Delete a clip

Click Delete at the top of the page.

Read the confirmation, which starts Delete this video?. The clip is removed from your library and taken out of every widget that shows it. The file itself stays in Shopify Files.

Click Delete. Or click Cancel to keep the clip.

You're taken to the next clip, or the previous one if it was last in the list, or back to the library if it was your only clip. Deleting can't be undone. See Delete clips for what happens to your widgets.

Media unavailable

If the page shows Media unavailable, the Shopify file behind this clip is gone, or the app can't read the file details it saved for it. Delete the clip, then add the video again: from the Shopify Files tab if the file is still there, or by uploading it again if it isn't.

Deleting a file in Shopify Files

If you delete a clip's file directly in Shopify Files, the library keeps the clip, but the video can no longer play. Widgets that use it then won't save, showing Some files are still processing. Waiting won't help: delete the clip from the library, which also takes it out of your widgets.
