What shoppers see

The shopper's journey from a thumbnail to the cart, and what to expect on phones, in other languages, and with your theme.

From thumbnail to cart

The widget. Shoppers see your clips as story circles, cards, tiles, a pop up, or a product page strip, depending on the layout. Thumbnails can play silent previews, and Carousel and Grid cards can show a product chip.

The player. Tapping a clip opens it in the player, with sound unless you've set it to start muted. In the full player, shoppers swipe up and down to move between clips.

The product. A card at the bottom of the video shows the tagged product with its price. Tapping it opens a quick add panel or the product page. See Shopping from a video.

The cart. The product goes into the cart, and the shopper either lands on the cart page or keeps watching, depending on your Add to cart action.

When that shopper checks out, the products they reached through the video are credited to the widget and clip in Analytics, as long as they allowed analytics tracking and bought within 30 days.

What updates by itself

Your storefront checks your Video library each time a page loads, so these changes show within a minute or two, without saving your widgets again:

  • Tagging, untagging, or changing a clip's product, and changing a product's price, rating, or Active status.
  • Setting a clip to Draft, which takes it out of every widget, or back to Active, which puts it back.

These reach your storefront on their own, so you don't need to save your widgets again. Other things are saved into a widget when you click Save, so save the widget after changing the clips it plays, its layout and design, or the alt text used for captions.

On phones

Everything is built for phones first:

  • Rows of circles, cards, and clips scroll sideways with a swipe. Carousel cards and Product page clips shrink so the next one peeks in.
  • The player fills the screen and works with swipes. The up and down arrow buttons only appear on desktop.
  • Grids switch to your Mobile column count, and the mosaic pattern becomes an even grid.
  • The pop up is never wider than 110 px.

"Phones" means screens 749 px wide or narrower. Set phone sizes separately with Size on mobile and Alignment on mobile. See Size and spacing.

Language and currency

  • Your content shows as you wrote it: the widget heading, file captions, subtitles, and product titles on cards and chips. Those product titles are in your store's default language. The quick add panel can show your translated product and variant names.
  • Built-in text in the player and quick add panel, such as Add to cart, Sold out, Quantity, and View full details, shows in the language the shopper's store is set to. It's translated into Chinese (Simplified and Traditional), Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian (Bokmål), Polish, Portuguese (Brazil and Portugal), Spanish, Swedish, and Turkish. Any other language shows English.
  • Your own wording for three of those texts, Add to cart, Sold out, and View full details, can be set for each language in Settings. Leave a field blank to keep the built-in translation.
  • Prices on product chips and cards show in the shopper's currency, so they match the rest of your store. They can take a moment to appear. The price in the quick add panel is for the variant the shopper picked.

Translations need the app embed

The built-in translations are loaded by the FOXR - Shoppable Video app embed. A widget placed with embed code shows the built-in text in English, but still uses any wording you set in Settings. If shoppers see the wrong language, see Button text is in the wrong language.

Speed and accessibility

  • Posters load as they scroll into view, and preview videos load only when needed.
  • The player loads only the current clip and the ones either side of it.
  • Settings → Videos → Playback mode chooses between faster loading and full quality. See Feeds and videos. Even on Quality, shoppers who turned on Data Saver or have a very slow connection get the smaller file.
  • Thumbnails, arrows, and every player button can be reached with the keyboard, and have labels for screen readers.
  • The player respects "reduce motion" for its slide animation, and the pop up doesn't animate in.

Your theme

Widgets use your theme's fonts and sit inside your theme's sections, so they blend in. Your theme's own button and image styles can sometimes change how a widget looks. If something looks off, let us know through the chat in the app.

What shoppers can't do

  • There's no link to share a single video. Sharing links to the page.
  • Shoppers can't leave comments, and nobody sees view or like counts.
  • The creator's name isn't shown. Show social handle is in Settings, but it doesn't show anything yet.
  • There's no Buy now button in the player. Shoppers add to cart, then check out as usual.
