Use Foxr with Sidekick

Ask Shopify Sidekick about your videos, widgets, settings, and results, add clips, and have it prepare edits for you to review and save.

Sidekick is Shopify's AI assistant in your admin. With Foxr installed, Sidekick can look up your clips and widgets, report how they're performing, check your settings and storefront, set up adding new clips, and open clips and widgets for editing.

Ask Sidekick about Foxr

In your Shopify admin, open Sidekick.

Type your question and include FOXR, for example How did my FOXR videos do in the last 7 days?

Read the answer. When Sidekick offers a link to a clip or widget, click it to open the page in the app.

If Sidekick filled in a form for you, check it and click Save. See Edits wait for you to save.

What you can ask

Ask Sidekick toExampleWhat it does
Find clipsShow my draft FOXR videos or Which FOXR clips have no product tagged?Searches your Video library by name, status, and source (upload, Shopify Files, Instagram, or TikTok). It tells you each clip's caption and tagged products, and how many are tagged.
List widgetsList my FOXR widgetsLists your widgets with their layout, placement, and number of clips.
Report widget performanceHow did my FOXR videos do in the last 7 days? or Which widget made the most money in the last 30 days?Reports revenue, orders, and the views → plays → clicks → cart funnel, for your whole store and per widget.
Rank your clipsWhich FOXR clips sell best? or Which clips does nobody watch?Ranks individual clips by revenue, plays, product clicks, or views, best or weakest first. Each clip's numbers are added up across every widget it's in. It can leave out drafts.
Find where shoppers drop offWhere do shoppers drop off in my FOXR videos?Reads the funnel in order and points to the step with the weakest rate.
Read your settingsWhat's my FOXR playback mode?Reports the Settings now in effect, including defaults and any button text you set for a language. It can't change them.
Check your storefrontAre my FOXR videos live? or Why don't my FOXR videos show?Checks that the app embed is on in your published theme and which pages have a widget block with a widget picked. If something's missing, it gives you a link to the theme editor to fix it.
Edit a clipOpen the video called "Morning routine" and rename it to "Serum demo"Opens the clip's page in the app and fills in the changes.
Edit a widgetChange my home page stories widget to a carouselOpens the widget editor and fills in the changes.
Add clipsAdd these Instagram posts to my FOXR libraryOpens Add media on the right tab and sets it up. You choose the clips and add them. See Add clips with Sidekick.

Performance covers the last 7, 30, or 90 days, or all time. There are no calendar periods like "this month". Sidekick uses the last 30 days if you don't say. The numbers use the same definitions as the Analytics page. Sidekick can break down up to 12 widgets, or rank up to 15 clips, at a time.

Edits wait for you to save

Sidekick never saves a change on its own. When it makes a change, it opens the clip or widget and fills in the form. You review it, then click Save, or Discard to throw it away. Sidekick tells you the change isn't saved yet.

On a clip's page, Sidekick canOn a widget's editor, Sidekick can
Change the name and captionChange the widget name
Set the status to Active or DraftChange the layout: Stories, Carousel, Grid, Pop up, or Product page
Change the call to action: None, Product, Collection, or Custom link with its button labelChange the placement
Replace or clear the subtitles

Sidekick can't pick a new product or collection for you. Choose it on the clip's page with Add product or Add collection. Sidekick can only switch the call to action to Product or Collection when one is already chosen. See Tag a product.

The Product page layout always sits on product pages. If you ask for it together with another placement, the placement is ignored.

Change a clip with Sidekick

Ask Sidekick to change the clip, for example Set my "Morning routine" FOXR video to draft.

Sidekick opens the clip's page in the app and fills in the change. If it offers a link to the clip instead, click it.

Check the fields, then click Save.

Change a widget with Sidekick

Ask Sidekick to change the widget, for example Rename my FOXR grid widget to "Summer looks".

Sidekick opens the widget editor and fills in the change. If it offers a link to the widget instead, click it.

Check the Name, layout, and placement, then click Save.

Check before you save a clip

Sidekick's descriptions of some clip fields are broader than what the storefront does:

  • The Caption field isn't the caption shoppers see on the video. That comes from the file's alt text in Shopify Files. See Caption.
  • Only a Product call to action shows to shoppers. If Sidekick offers a custom link or collection instead, saving it removes the clip's product, and shoppers see no link or button.

Add clips with Sidekick

Sidekick can open Add media on the right tab and look things up for you. It can't add clips by itself. You always choose them and click Add to library.

Ask Sidekick to add clips. For Instagram or TikTok, paste the links. For Shopify Files, name the file. For example: Add these TikTok videos to my FOXR library: link one, link two.

Sidekick opens Add media on the Instagram, TikTok, or Shopify Files tab, already filled in.

Select the clips you want. Posts you looked up show as cards with a preview. Files already in your library are marked.

Click Add to library. You can add up to 25 clips at a time.

Ask Sidekick to open the new clip, or open it in Video library, and tag a product. A new clip has no product yet, so it isn't shoppable.

Good to know:

  • Instagram and TikTok links must point to a single post, reel, or video. Profile links don't work. Sidekick can look up to 25 links for one platform at a time. See Import from Instagram and TikTok.
  • On Shopify Files, Sidekick searches by file name. Files that are still processing can't be selected yet. Try again in a moment.
  • Sidekick can open the Upload tab, but only you can choose files from your computer. Once they finish processing, add them from the Shopify Files tab. See Upload videos.

What Sidekick can't do

  • Add clips without you choosing them and clicking Add to library, or pick files from your computer.
  • Choose which clips a widget plays, or change its design, player, or A/B test. Sidekick will point you to the right tab in the editor.
  • Create a new widget.
  • Change your Settings. It can read them, but you change them on the Settings page.
  • Delete anything.

Good to know

  • Sidekick is a Shopify feature, and whether it's available depends on your store. Shopify controls where and for whom it's offered.
  • Sidekick works with what's in the app. If a clip or widget doesn't show up, check that it exists in Video library or Widgets.
  • Sidekick may call the Product page layout "inline" or "product page embed". They're the same thing.
  • A clip set to Draft is hidden from your widgets, so it won't play for shoppers until you set it back to Active.
  • Revenue only includes sales credited through the FOXR attribution pixel. See How sales are credited.
